The national Sierra Club is the most influential grassroots environmental organization in the United States. It is home to over 3.5 million members and supporters who use this organization as a platform to defend our planet. The club was founded in 1892 by Californians who wanted to sponsor nature outings. John Muir was the club's first president and got the club involved in political action to conserve nature. The club has celebrated many conservation successes in Yosemite National Park, the Great Lakes, the Grand Canyon, and so on. There are now Sierra Club chapters in all 50 states where they work to lobby for environmental legislation while still keeping maintaining the slogan: explore, enjoy, protect!
